Moving the Calendar Up ...

....for easier viewing.

Chubby Charmer - Added Class!

Due to popular demand, Linda Kay has added another class to the March Calendar for the Chubby Charmer. Monday , March 16, 9:30 - 3:00. We have 3 spaces available. $30.00

Trip For 2 to Boston

One of the most fun ways to sew is to buddy up with a friend and "work together". One cuts, irons and hands off the pieces to the other who does the sewing..... and in record time, you've got a quilt.
This quilt pattern by Prairie Pieces is a take-off on that idea with the end result of TWO quilts to share. One would have the Blue fabric (batik YES!) on the outer edges (as shown) and the other would have the Pink on the outer edge. In other words, it's the reverse of what you see here.
Our sample is a small version of the actual pattern and the pattern itself comes in three sizes; Lap : 42" x 54", Throw: 65" x 85" and Full: 94" x 105" and we have these gorgeous batiks in stock.

Brown Bear, What Do You See

Eric Carle's famous and loved story is now in fabric form to make this super-sized (64" Square)quilt for the toddler or kindergartener.

After you whip this one out, snuggle up under while you read the book together, play "I Spy" and make memories. The pattern comes free with the kit.

$66.99

Noah's Ark

Laura and Jayne have made this sweet baby quilt using our new line of baby fabric in soft pastels.
The pattern comes free the kit and makes a 48 " x 60" quilt. With a quilt that size, "baby" will be growing and cuddling into it for years.....

$52.99

Whack and Stack Class

Leslie is teaching this class even as these words are being typed.....
If you look closely at the quilt in the upper right hand corner, you'll see the quilt sample.

Here you see some of the students pinning the stacks in preparation for the cutting up of the fabric.

Paper Piecing

As Leslie is wrapping up her class series on Judy Neimeyer advanced paper-piecing, we have a sample ready for display for our March 24 class in the Introduction to Paper-piecing.

If you have ever wanted to learn this technique and tips on making it as painless as possible, this is the class. We will use patterns from Carol Doak's Easy Machine Paper Piecing and in a few short quick hours, you will be on your way to perfect points and complicated patterns without stress. It's a lot of fun to paper-piece. (who knew?)

You'll look at Judy's patterns with a whole new eye and know that you can do that!

Flowers on the Square

Here we have another in the '5" is a Cinch' series quilt. This is made from the new Mary Engelbreit collection and Linda Kay made our sample last week. It's both charm pack and layer cake friendly and makes a bright, cheerful, quick and easy quilt.

We have the pattern and lots of fresh new fabric for spring to make this up in no time flat.

Prairie Gothic - Jane Sassaman

When we first started blogging, we had just returned from "Market" in Houston, and were very excited about Jane Sassaman's new line, Prairie Gothic. Here she continues designing to her own beat and rythmn and yes the collection does work well with past fabric families. I wrote back then that Pearl was working on a sample for the shop and here you have it.

These blocks are fussy-cut and framed in Kaffe Fassett fabrics that just work beautifully against the Sassaman fabrics and set on point in the layout. The colors and designs are so off-beat and well, whacky, it's sure to please that wild-child or rebel we have lurking either inside or somewhere in our own families! Totally original.

Please click on the photo for a close-up in a separate window.

Bit of Whimsy

And when she isn't making her own quilts, Leslie just pops out samples galore: Here we have "A Bit of Whimsy", from one of the patterns we showcased last week.

Now this one is offered free with the purchase of the fabric and makes a large bed quilt for that young girl in your family. Four-patch and nine-patch, lovely spring motifs and the border fabric to tie it up, just a sweet quilt that's fast to make.

Phinney Ridge from Batik Gems

Leslie has provided us with a sample using Asian fabric and a pattern from the book, Batik Gems. It is just like her to wander off the playing field into her own imagination and give us something different to think about.
Here we have Phinney Ridge:

Now, there is a shelf of fabric blocking the bottom portion of the quilt itself but you get a pretty good idea of the effectiveness of the diamonds floating above the stripped panels.

And yes the book is very good and obviously inspiring!

Mary Engelbreit Sample

Linda Kay has made a sample of a smaller version of the Basket of Flowers pattern that we posted about last week. As you can see, she uses both straight-seam sewing and fusible applique on the those leaves around the border. Those who prefer hand applique can use that method.
We have many bolts from this new collection, lots of cherries!!

This size makes it a quick and easy wall-hanging to keep or share.

heehee (this post may be edited in the near future)

I'm trying out a new feature from Google and Blogger to add a calendar for easy viewing. You should be able to click on each entry for times or other info.

It truly is a Brave New World

Update: well guess what!? You can click the "right"arrow next to the month (February) and it scrolls into the future!!!! wow!

I am shaking my head in wonderment..... what will they think of next?

Ok, from here on out, you ought to be able to check up on up-coming events at the shop.
I hope this is a useful tool for all our customers.
